Cigarette smoking among immigrant Salvadoreans in Washington, DC: behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs
Article Abstract:
The prevalence of smoking is low among immigrants from El Salvador in the Washington DC metropolitan area, especially among the women. The smoking behaviour identified by this research almost exclusively represented the smoking patterns adopted by the Salvadoreans before migrating to the US. This research confirms previous findings that Hispanic women are much less likely to smoke than Hispanic men. There was found to be no connection between indices of socioeconomic status and smoking. This may reflect the more recent uptake of smoking that has taken place in El Salvador compared with the US.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices of argileh (water pipe or hubble-bubble) and cigarette smoking among pregnant women in Lebanon
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess pregnant Lebanese women's knowledge and attitude towards the chemical contents and related harmful effects of argileh (water pipe or hubble-bubble) and cigarettes, and the associations between these factors and smoking practice. Results show that a significant and growing percentage of pregnant Lebanese women smoke, and their smoking behaviors were empirically linked with important gaps in knowledge and permissive attitudes.

Cigar use before and after a cigarette excise tax increase in New Jersey
Article Abstract:
A study was carried out to determine whether cigarette smokers in New Jersey, United States of America, substituted cigars following a cigarette excise tax increase. Findings demonstrate that when other tobacco products' excise taxes fail to keep pace with cigarettes, there is a real potential for product substitution, and cessation of all tobacco products is necessary for the best public health outcome.
