Article Abstract:
United States citizens maturing during the 1970s rely more on televison than their elders and read newspapers less. Comparison with similar research from Germany suggests growing up while influenced by television may depend on a country's technology.

The congruence between U.S. foreign policy objectives and the direction of the news coverage is examined. Several key aspects of U.S. newspapers coverage of trade talks with Japan, Taiwan and Korea are also presented.
