Print media coverage of environmental causation of breast cancer
Article Abstract:
This article provides an analysis of newspaper, newsweekly, science periodical, and women magazine articles regarding their portrayal of breast cancer causation. The authors found little coverage of environmental causation and corporate and governmental responsibility, and maintain the articles focused on causation factors such as genetics, diet, childbearing, and other personal factors.

Embodied health movements: new approaches to social movements in health
Article Abstract:
The article identifies three forms of health social movements: constituency-based, which targets demographic factors in health care services; health access, which targets equitable access to services; and embodied health movements, which target disease-based science and treatment. Social movement theory is applied to the last form, using breast cancer as an illustration.

Framing as a cultural resource in health social movements: funding activism and the breast cancer movement in the US 1990-1993
Article Abstract:
The article identifies three interconnected, culturally resonant frames used to shift perspectives of breast cancer from an individual concern to a priority public health issue. Social constructionalist analysis is applied to media accounts of funding activism and Congressional testimony.
