Article Abstract:
The attractions of the commercial, consumerist, cities that define the American urban landscape can be understood if one is dexterous of one's understandings of the kinds of materials that bind these kinds of cities together. One needs to work with and understand the affective economies that give contemporary urban spaces and events their very particular feel and consistency.

Segregation, nativity, and health: reproductive health inequalities for immigrant and native-born Black women in New York City
Article Abstract:
A study that compares the impact of segregation on the risk of having a low birthweight infant between immigrant and native-born African-American women in the city of New York is presented. The results reveal that for immigrant African-American women, the health effects of segregation are much more subdued but complex.

Postcolonialism and the American city
Article Abstract:
The term postcolonial was applied almost exclusively to cities within the context of European urbanism and empire. By using a case study of New York City, five particular ways for a meaningful postcolonial perspective are examined for understanding American cities and empire.
