Commentary-Urban prospects
Article Abstract:
A description of Anglo-American urban alliances is presented, as American and British troops entered Baghdad and the news media detailed the peculiarities of urban combat. Contrasts are drawn between a deep American pessimism, evident in a propensity to declare the end to public space, to the social welfare state and a preoccupation with all that is wrong in the city, while British urban geographers seemed more willing to consider alternatives, and to express pleasure in the city.
