Early adolescent gateway drug use in sons of fathers with substance use disorders
Article Abstract:
The significance of preadolescent psychopathology and substance use as determinants of early adolescent alcohol and cannabis usage was examined through questionnaires administered among fathers of preadolescent boys. The High Risk group had a higher incidence of early adolescent alcohol consumption and preadolescent tobacco experimentation compared to the Low Average Risk group. Preadolescent delinquency and tobacco use had 100% sensitivity and 76% specificity, thereby suggesting that these variables accurately determine cannabis use during adolescence.
