Death in the wrong place? Emotional geographies of the UK 2001 foot and mouth disease epidemic
Article Abstract:
The concept of 'lifescape' is explored to capture the spatial, emotional and ethical dimensions of the relationship between landscape, livestock and farming community and to elucidate the heterogeneity of agricultural emotional landscapes. Further, the complex and contradictory spatial, emotional and ethical relations between humans and non-humans are presented.

Poetic justice? Rural policy clashes with rural poetry in the 2001 outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the UK
Article Abstract:
Three poems written by a former farmer, a poet and a vet from the three most affected regions, Devon, Northumberland, and Cumbria using insights from linguistics, cultural studies and rural studies are analyzed. The new insights an analysis of this type of 'grounded poetry' could into individual and community trauma are examined.
