Effective family-based interventions for adolescents with substance use problems: A systematic review
Article Abstract:
A systematic review identifying effective family-based interventions for adolescent substance use problems is presented. Treatment components of five interventions, Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT), Family Behavior Therapy, Functional Family Therapy, Multidimensional Therapy (MDFT), and Multisystematic Treatment, are considered consistent with a majority of guidelines for effective treatment.

Research has shown the Groupwork Engagement Measure (GEM) method is a reliable tool for evaluating group social work effectiveness. Social group workers attempting to monitor and improve their service can rely on the GEM.
