Effects of maternal cigarette smoking during pregnancy on long-term physical and cognitive parameters of child development
Article Abstract:
A review of literature was conducted regarding the negative impact of maternal cigarette smoking during pregnancy on long-term physical and cognitive development of the child. Past researches revealed that the effects of prenatal exposure to smoking on children's physical development are mediated by a dose-response relationship. The long-term effects observed were small and may have no major functional importance.

Selection of levels of prevention
Article Abstract:
This article examines universal and targeted intervention programs designed to prevent and treat psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents. Universal programs, which are open to the entire community, are often well managed and prevent stigmatization while targeted programs, which single out high-risk individuals, treat problems early but rely on accurate screening.
