A panel discussion concerning the issue of emotional trauma development associated with child sexual abuse medical examination is presented. Children experiencing emotional stress during examination are likely to cope better than children whose abuse is not reported. Children's responses to the medical evaluation for child sexual abuse
Article Abstract:
The reactions of children to medical screening and prevention of emotional trauma resulting from the examination are the issues that must be addressed in the research about child abuse investigation. Professionals involved in the field of examination should devise interventions that would minimize the emotional trauma associated with the evaluation. The manner by which the child responds to the examination may be used as a screening tool in determining the necessity of a mental health evaluation.
