Emotionally abuse children presenting to child psychiatry clinics
Article Abstract:
A survey to study urban child psychiatry services in England was conducted. The child psychiatry service was in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and nine clinicians were selected to participate in the survey. An operational definition with five dimensions of child abuse was devised for the study. It was discovered that with the application of the operational definition, the number of children who could have experienced emotional abuse doubled. The survey's findings raises several questions related to the operations of child protection systems and child service workers.

Twenty years later: we do know how to prevent child abuse and neglect
Article Abstract:
Child abuse and neglect can be prevented. However, it is important for clinicians to realize this can only be done by changing the negative attitudes and feelings held by some parents towards their children. It is also important for society to be ready to provide the resources needed to provide preventive services to families. Preventive services fall under two categories, namely, general services and targeted services. Home visiting programs, which fall under targeted services, are particularly effective in preventing child abuse and neglect.
