Engaging with events: the specifics of political sociology in India
Article Abstract:
Indian political sociology has concerned itself almost exclusively with topics suggested by India's domestic society and political events. It has concentrated on studying particular institutional crises, the links between the country's social institutions and political expression, ethnic separatist movements, movements directed by various social communities, and the political mobilization of India's farmers. Western research targeting India's specific political sociology, as well as general Western theory in the field, have also significantly influenced Indian political sociologists.

Sociology of political sociology in Southeast Asia and the problem of democracy
Article Abstract:
Political sociology in Southeast Asia has focused on discussions of economic development and democratization, as well as debate over whether Western or indigenous traditions provide the most useful democratic model for the region. Scholars must guard against losing objectivity in discussing the merits of one or the other cultural paradigm. Political sociologists must also be mindful of the limits imposed upon them by most Southeast Asian societies because of their discipline's controversial nature and governmental or cultural ambivalence toward freedom of discourse.
