Ethical issues in research on the treatment of adolescent substance abuse disorders
Article Abstract:
There has been only limited recognition of the significant ethical and legal issues raised by substance abuse treatment research with adolescents. Research in this area has looked at these ethical concerns and considered ways of undertaking adolescent substance abuse treatment research that comply with vital ethical principles. It was found that there are several reasons why choosing more severe drug users for treatment research could be both desirable and ethically appropriate. These reasons include the fact that effective treatments can be tested on populations in greatest need of treatment.
