Expectancies and other psychosocial factors associated with alcohol use among early adolescent boys and girls
Article Abstract:
Adolescent alcohol use is major public health concern in the US. Associations between alcohol use and psychosocial variables have been examined in a sample of sixth to eighth grade youth. Average risk-taking scores were higher for boys than girls, but risk taking behavior appeared to place girls at risk for drinking, but not boys. Modifiable factors such as alcohol expectancies, peer influence, self-control and parental expectations are strongly linked with adolescent drinking.
