Family secrets: transnational struggles among children of Filipino immigrants
Article Abstract:
Filipino second-generation youth are beset by transnational struggles which are connected to relationships with their families. Socio-economic statistics show that assimilation among second-generation Filipino immigrants is occurring but it does not portray the painful and problematic processes that occur in their lives. Higher rates of depression and despair among Filipina immigrant children are observed. The Filipino immigrant family has strong ties but it is a source of intense conflict and contradictions.

In search of the next second generation: alternative strategies for identifying second generation children and understanding their acquisition of English
Article Abstract:
An increasing concern over the usage of the English Language has surfaced due to the cultural implications of the increasing volume of second -generation immigrants. The lack of information on second-generation child population makes it difficult to determine the long-term consequences of immigration. Providing a better future for these children also proves to be difficult without full information.
