Gender, values and the work place: considerations for immigrant acculturation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on a group of refugees in a transit city to examine the difference between the values of men and women who came from a fundamentalist country and were confronted by the challenge of acculturation into a Western society. The results suggested that women show higher levels of job satisfaction and commitment to the workplace than did men. Moreover, gender differences in terms of values, specifically individual responsibility, were found to be higher in men. These findings suggest a consistency with the fundamentalist ethnic background of the group studied.
