Social control and the policing of terrorism: Foundations for sociology of counterterrorism
Article Abstract:
A sociological perspective of the policing of terrorism is proposed that is conceptually informed by a neo-Weberian bureaucratization theory of police. The theory indicates that antiterrorist efforts at the level of police rest on a formal-rational conception of the means and objectives of counterterrorism on terrorism are very intense and divisive within and across national states.

Taking stock of research methods and analysis on oppositional political terrorism
Article Abstract:
Salient contributions in both qualitative and quantitative approaches to political terrorism studies are reviewed by building on similar work by Schmid (1983) and Gurr (1988). Qualitative research helps in understanding the psychology of participants and the social setting in which they operate and aid in contextualizing the material that is developed in quantitative studies.

Developing a sociological theory for the empirical understanding of terrorism
Article Abstract:
An attempt is represented to construct a sociological theory of terrorism by means of six theoretical propositions. These propositions explain counterhegemonic terrorism and the dynamics of organizations that participate in such political violence.
