Genetic susceptibility testing in smoking-cessation treatment: one-year outcomes of a randomized trial
Article Abstract:
Genetic feedback has a significant effect on motivation to quit smoking, but has no influence on actual cessation at the 12-month follow-up. This was the key finding in a study of the outcomes of a randomized trial of genetic susceptibility biomarker feedback integrated into a minimal contact smoking cessation treatment. Results indicate that genetic susceptibility feedback has the intended effects on motivation to quit, but has to be incorporated into a more intensive smoking-cessation treatment for an intensified motivation that would lead to smoking cessation.

Differences between Latino and non-Latino smokers in cognitive and behavioral characteristics relevant to smoking cessation
Article Abstract:
Adult smokers were recruited during routine health care visits at primary care clinics located in three urban hospitals and were given a brief intervention and nicotine replacement therapy to compare bicultural or less acculturated Latinos and non-Latino White participants. The results gave support for the viability of brief interventions for smoking provided through health care delivery systems.
