'Habits and bureaucratic routines', cultural and structural factors in the experience of informal care: a qualitative study of Bangladeshi women living in London
Article Abstract:
The interaction between cultural and structural factors in influencing experience of informal care among Bangladeshi women in London was examined by a study of 100 women providing care in isolated circumstances and with little or not formal support. It was seen that strong cultural and structural forces determined their experience of informal care and meanings they attached to their role as informal carers.

The professionalization of knowledge in European markets: engineering in the UK and Poland
Article Abstract:
A general statement is made about professionalization processes within states and how internationalization is affecting and influencing such processes. The differential impacts of international regulation and the effects of this on the employment and mobility prospects for engineers in different European nation-states are discussed.

Short note: The sociology of professional groups: New directions
Article Abstract:
An alternative, more pragmatic view of the definitional question that include a reappraisal and reassessment of professionalism as a normative value is discussed. The discourse of professionalism is viewed as a mechanism for the control of work and workers.
