Haitian interdiction: an overview of US policy and practice
Article Abstract:
Haitian refugees are suffering needlessly due to US interdiction policy. The policy is erroneous in its view and implementation. While the US has acknowledged the political situation in Haiti by withdrawing most of its embassy staff, and not recognizing the military government, it continues to send Haitians back to a government it knows to be repressive. The US government has also failed to give Haitians an adequate screening process to determine refugee status. Conditions in the detention camps are also deteriorating, with officials subjecting Haitians to physical and emotional strain to force them to go back to Haiti.

U.S. Supreme Court to rule on Haitian asylum
Article Abstract:
The US Supreme Court is expected to decide on the Bush Administration's policy toward Haitian refugees by 1993. The present issue deals with the latest modified policy of Pres Bush that changed a ruling under which every Haitian is given a preliminary screening to determine eligibility for political asylum in the US, and required the US Coast Guard to send back the intercepted Haitian migrants' boats without an initial interview.

Ending the Haitian refugee crisis
Article Abstract:
The government's refusal to admit Haitian refugees to the country has been the cause of shame and moral indignation for many Americans. Organizations such as the Center for Migration Studies called on Congress to grant refuge to the Haitians and to generate relief programs for these people. The government is also urged to concern itself with helping restore democracy and economic stability in Haiti.
