Narcissism and intrinsic motivation: the role of goal congruence
Article Abstract:
This study investigated the influence of narcissistic cognitive-affective processing on intrinsic motivation and the enjoyment of activities. Results indicate that male narcissistic students strongly prefer activities that satisfy their need to pursue ego goals and provide external validation for their overly positive self-views.

The hidden sides of self-esteem: two dimensions of implicit self-esteem and their relation to narcissistic reactions
Article Abstract:
Study results from experimentally activated narcissistic thoughts and feelings among participants demonstrate that narcissistic reactions are predicted by the combination of a high level of implicit self-attractiveness and a low level of implicit self-liking.

Nonconscious relationship reactance: when significant others prime opposing goals
Article Abstract:
The unconscious rejection of the goals of relationship partners is investigated. The pursuit of behavior opposite to that of significant partners is also found to be unintentional.
