Hazelden's model of treatment and its outcome
Article Abstract:
The Minnesota Model treatment approach for alcohol and drug addiction was applied to 1,083 clients of the Hazelden treatment center in Center City, MN. Results showed significant reductions in alcohol and drug use frequency between pretreatment and posttreatment. The abstinent rate at one-year follow-up was 53%, while 35% of the sample had decreased their alcohol or drug use from pretreatment to one-year posttreatment. Follow-up revealed that half of the sample reported improvements in their relationships with spouses or significant other and improved physical health.

Integrating psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy to improve drug abuse outcomes
Article Abstract:
The contrasting applicability, durability, methodology and effects of psychosocial treatments and pharmacologic treatments on drug abuse are evaluated. Both treatments are found to have respective weaknesses especially when used alone. It is concluded that combining the most effective forms of the two treatments will have broader results and cover most substance abuse disorders.
