Health professionals' attitudes to the deregulation of emergency contraception (or the problem of female sexuality)
Article Abstract:
Results of a survey of British pharmacists and general practitioners on the possible deregulation of emergency contraception is discussed. In contrast to their professional bodies, most held overwhelmingly negative attitudes to such deregulation, stemming from assumptions about female sexuality that women are sexually irresponsible and devious. These have a tenacious history likely to undermine the provision of such contraception.
