How to introduce Sociology at large research universities without mortgaging your soul: Evaluative observations of a teaching experiment
Article Abstract:
A course is designed with the intention to offer students a nuanced introduction to sociological inquiry, and also to reduce the depersonalization experienced by students in large lecture classes and to improve the quality of instructions in the smaller discussion sections. An evaluative characterization of the experimental course and the results achieved are presented.

Teaching, research, and service: Expectations of assistant professors
Article Abstract:
The expectations of assistant professors as perceived by junior and senior faculty (n=22) across seven disciplines at two universities were evaluated critically. Suggestions offered for transition to the role of assistant professor in Sociology focusing on change within graduate programs, hiring institutions and Sociology as a discipline are provided.
