"If you read it, I wrote it"; the anonymous career of comic book writer Paul S. Newman
Article Abstract:
Paul S. Newman is the most prolific comic book writer of all time, having written over 4,000 stories since 1947, typically anonymous. His output includes many movie and TV show tie-ins and some Archie, Disney, DC and Marvel comics. He significantly shaped the mythos of the Lone Ranger by writing for that comic starting in 1951, until 1975. His career exemplifies how authors' anonymity contributes to the mythic appeal of popular culture characters. His interest is in telling stories with good plot twists.

Comic book fandom and cultural capital
Article Abstract:
The traits of fandom are etched clearly within the culture of comic book enthusiasts. Comic book fandom as an intricate system has its own rules that define the value of popular texts. Comic book lovers construct a meaningful sense of self through comic fandom and comic-book collecting. High culture is showed off to give way to the 'shadow cultural economy.' Values are ascribed to tastes. Tastes that are privileged are those associated with the upper strata of society.
