Inside the black box: dimensions of gender, generation and scale in the Australian rural restructuring process
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that farm women have played varying and important roles in defending the farm and the family through on- and off-farm and household labor, while men's roles have changed little. Results are based on a 1984-1993 study of survival strategies of 37 rural families living on Kangaroo Island, Australia, during a financial crisis beginning in the 1980s; topics discussed include theories of domestic political economy, simple commodity production, gender order and roles, and Marxian political economy project.
