"Liberating the city: Between New York and New Orleans" - A response
Article Abstract:
A response to Jamie Peck's "Liberating the City" agrees with the general outline of the arguments, but contemporary critiques of the position adopted by Peck are pursued to investigate its limits. These involve the constant re-centering of neoliberalism as process and idea, the analytical focus on neoliberalism as ideology and policy framework and the articulation of neoliberalism and neoconservatism in contemporary urban governance especially with respect to the issue of race.

Liberating the city: Between New York and New Orleans
Article Abstract:
The successful reimagination of America's urban conditions is examined by analyzing two urban crises, New York City after the fiscal crisis of 1975 and New Orleans in the wake of 2005's Hurricane Katrina. An account is given of the neoliberal urban policy of conservative and free-market think tanks, which have reclaimed the cities gradually from the poor for business, the middle class and the market.
