This article examines China's film industry and market in 1998, the year in which the box office hit 'Titanic' overshadowed domestic Chinese films. The author maintains that with the success of 'Titanic' in China the domestic films suffered a poor audience turnout, as well as many other big budget American films.

The embarrassments caused by importing major films

This article discusses the impact importing American films into China has had on the Chinese filmmaking industry. The authors maintain that by importing big budget American movies the Chinese audience has lost interest in domestic Chinese films, which cannot compete with the high costs and special effects.
