Article Abstract:
The author evaluates changes in class distinction in educational opportunity according to a cumulative logit model based on threshold in order to account for the meritocracy hypothesis. Educational opportunity and sexual inequality in educational attainment remained the same relative to social class. The expansion of education during the postwar period actually led to a widening of the inequality between classes.
