Maternal determinants of birth weight: a population-based sample from Qingdao, China
Article Abstract:
Women in Qingdao, China, who reach menarche at a younger age and have shorter menstrual cycles, have heavier babies. No differences exist in the birth weights between male and female children. A control on the gestation age, maternal height and weight, sex of infant, and the number of antenatal visits indicates that the difference in birth weight is 11.7 g for each year. The difference for each day of the menstrual cycle is 4.0 g. Women with shorter cycles probably have better developed sex organs and hormonal activity that are more favorable for fetal development.

Determinants and effects of waiting time to coitus
Article Abstract:
The likelihood of the use of contraceptives for the first sexual intercourse of a couple does not simply depend on the length of the courtship period, as shown by analysis of the 1983 US National Survey of Unmarried Women. The analysis sample consisted of 1,314 women between the ages of 20 and 29 years. Other possible factors besides waiting, or courtship, time are the partner's education and age.

Ecological determinants of divorce: a structural approach to the explanation of Japanese divorce
Article Abstract:
The rate of divorce in Japan can be explained by human ecology models. Significant influences include household income, women in the labor force, female migration, population growth, sex ratios, population density, modernization and urbanization. Remaining variables which should be included in the models are aspects of behavior or regional attributes of prefectures and islands.
