Peking Opera: the persistence of tradition in the People's Republic of China
Article Abstract:
Peking Opera has dominated China for the past 100 years. Even when the Cultural Revolution threatened the art form's existence, the Peking Opera continued to enjoy support from the Chinese. The Opera is said to have originated from religious ritual and is based on myths and legends related to the Tang, Sung and Ming dynasties. It employs complex stylized movements and sounds which are subtle and symbolic, therefore enhancing the audience's dramatic experience. Chinese culture itself has promoted the Peking Opera which characterizes the traditional and conservative nature of Chinese.

The renaissance of the German garden gnome
Article Abstract:
There has been a strong revival in interest in garden gnomes in Germany over recent years. This trend has been largely driven by Gunter Griebel, a descendant of one of the first industrial producers of garden gnomes in the late 19th century and creator of the first German Gnome Museum. The German market is being largely supplied from factories on the Polish-German border, which are able to offer gnomes at a much lower price than those made by German manufacturers. The origins of the garden gnome remain unclear, but the modern terra cotta gnomes date back to the late 19th century.
