Migrant and seasonal farmworker children
Article Abstract:
Children of migrant and seasonal agricultural laborers across the globe continue to suffer from poor health. Thirty-four percent of them are infected with asthma, intestinal parasites, vitamin deficiencies, chemical poisoning and otitis media leading to deafness. Of the 3-5 million children, 72.8% lack health insurance, while Migrant Health Centers try to serve the remaining percent. Moreover, the poverty of these children and their families hampers their access to health care. These needs will only be resolved by increasing the funding for Community and Migrant Health Centers.
