The burning of coal and other fossil fuels is driving climate change, which is blamed for everything from western forest fires and Florida hurricanes to melting polar ice sheets and flooded Himalayan hamlets. Hence, nuclear power is seen as the best hope for cleanly and efficiently generating hydrogen where three groups of generating companies have entered a bureaucratic maze, aiming to start building the first new reactors by 2014.
