On the relationship between emotional and external eating behavior
Article Abstract:
A study of the association between emotional and external eating behavior using the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire revealed that problems such as emotional distress and relationships had a strong correlation with emotional eating while external eating did not indicate that the two types of food habits are unrelated constructs. The study analyzed self-reported measures of substance use problems, stimulus-boundness, emotional distress and relationships. The results signify the need for different scales to measure the two eating behaviors.

Habit control expectancy for drinking, smoking, and eating
Article Abstract:
The relationship between cognitive expectancy and substance use was examined by using habit-specific locus control of measures for drinking, smoking and eating compared to Rotter's general measure. Individuals who reported being addicted were more external on the habit-specific expectancy measures for both smoking and eating. For eating behavior, the habit-specific scale and the compulsive eating measure were different for individuals with a history of being overweight.

The concurrent validity of a classification of dieters with low versus high susceptibility toward failure of restraint
Article Abstract:
The concurrent applicability of a two-factorial classification of dieters employing the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire scales for restraint, emotional and external eating was assessed. Also included were the bulimia scale of the Eating Disorder Inventory for locating dieters with low or high susceptibility toward failure. Findings showed that the two-group classification was related with many of these behaviors and characteristics of psychopathology.
