Organized contraband smuggling and its enforcement in Canada: an assessment of the anti-smuggling initiative
Article Abstract:
The results of an anti-smuggling initiative (ASI), a Federal enforcement programme undertaken by Canada to combat cigarette and liquor smuggling in Canada, are discussed. Taxation policies like reduced federal and provincial taxes for cigarettes and liquor can be used to effectively tackle this contraband smuggling racket so that the profit margin and hence the attractiveness of the trade reduces along with law enforcement steps.

Organized crime in Ukraine: challenge and response
Article Abstract:
The reasons for the development of a major organized crime problem in Ukraine and other states of the Former Soviet Union during the 1990s are explained identifying the major participants, their activities and the variations in the phenomenon in different cities and regions. The initiatives taken by the government of Ukraine in its efforts to curb organized crime are detailed.
