Construing the past and future
Article Abstract:
The role of implicit theories and motivation in an individual's tendency to create the past and future was investigated. The conditions that lead social groups to bias history in either an effacing or aggrandizing nature were also examined. Results showed that most people tend to be unimpressed with their past behaviors and characteristics. In contrast, they view their present and future selves rather positively. People generally expect happiness and self-improvement in the future.

Who wants to be...erudite? Everyone! Evidence for automatic adaptation of trait definitions
Article Abstract:
