Ukraine, international money laundering, and the investigation of organized crime
Article Abstract:
During the period of economic reform and liberalization of Ukraine's international trade policies, organized criminal groups drained Ukraine's resources endangering its economic security. International cooperation by foreign legal and financial organizations is necessary to upgrade Ukraine's current organizational system, to recover funds owed to it, and to find and prosecute Ukrainian organized crime syndicates.

Article Abstract:
The findings of the U.S.-Ukraine research partnership programme on the growing importance of Ukraine as a transit country for heroin trafficking are discussed. Identification of drugs smuggled, routes from and through Ukraine and conveyances used was the goal of this research, which would help in undertaking the anti narcotics activities over time.

Ukraine has experienced a proliferation of organized economic crime and corruption because of its recent economic reforms and loss of state organizational control. Some policy solutions, which can be implemented to countermeasure this shadow economy created by organized crime groups and corrupt officials, are detailed.
