Petrified masculinities? Contemporary Nigerian popular literatures by men
Article Abstract:
The masculine ideology is embodied in Nigerian popular literatures authored by men even in the 1960s. The distinction between masculinity and masculinism found in the works of Nigerian authors was explained. Ideological petrification of otherwise fluid social relations is evident in their literature. Varying versions of male power are used to understand the changes happening in society. The emergence of female authors, however, tended to disrupt the petrification of the power relation.

Fashion's phantom and masculinity's mystery: the posters of PKZ
Article Abstract:
The marketing of masculinity was analyzed in the series of advertising posters of Burger-Kehl and Co during the 1920s and the 1930s. The posters succeeded not only in ascribing a higher value to the company's product lines but also in packaging the qualities of 20th century men through images that created a sense of mystery and excited the imagination. Thus, clothing became a means to transform men so that they can transcend the ordinary after viewing the posters.

The fireman: immaculate manhood
Article Abstract:
The fireman was the icon of 20th-century manhood. Being a fireman in the late 19th and early 20th century meant being masculine, chivalrous and heroic. In England, the US and Australia, asserting the values and virtues of manliness and masculinity during the early 20th century meant recognizing firemen's capability and dedication. Representations were transnational, firefighters often depicted as saviors of women and children.
