Social influences on young adults' alcohol consumption: norms, modeling, pressure, socializing and conformity
Article Abstract:
The heavy drinking frequencies of youngsters in public drinking places are directly associated to both cognitive and situational factors. Stepwise multiple regression analysis shows that socializing in drinking situations and the social norms of family and peers contribute significantly to the frequency of heavy drinking. Modeling and group size have a comparatively lesser contribution. Direct social pressures have no significant effect on drinking frequency.
