Article Abstract:
The effect of economic, social and cultural capital on individuals' social position since 1989 is examined, focusing on the Hungarian ethnic minority in Transylvania. Detailed analysis of the stratification of Hungarians from Transylvania shows that the three groups constituting the middle class, that is, intellectuals, craftsmen, and nonmanual workers, represent approximately 45-50 percent, which is below the level characteristic of developed capitalist countries.
