Social work and traditional healing rituals among the Bedouin of the Negev, Israel
Article Abstract:
Traditional healing rituals of the Bedouin community are linked with the Islamic way of living, and are an unstigmatizing and legitimized aspect of natural helping system for mental and physical ailments. The Bedouin rituals of visiting the saint's tomb, memorial for the dead, and invocation of God's name can be used to develop a culturally-specific social work intervention. This will require knowledge about network and systems theory and appreciation of biases which contribute to cultural identity. Three such Bedouin rituals are discussed.
