Sociology of contemporary Japan
Article Abstract:
A sociological analysis of contemporary Japanese society requires a broad comparative approach looking beyond theories of Japanese uniqueness or universal frameworks such as Marxism or modernization theory. For example, Japanese society does have divisions based on gender, class, and ethnicity, despite a perception as a culture of equality. Postmodernist analysis and other studies contradict the uniqueness theories, instead revealing a country less ordered and homogeneous than generally perceived. Understanding Japan requires transcending Western-dominated sociological analysis when possible.

Shifting heuristics in the sociological approach to professional trustworthiness: The sociology of science
Article Abstract:
The social-scientific awareness about the strategic relevance of the western power knowledge is discussed. A radical theoretical revision of common views about sources, forms and degrees of socioprofessional reliability, trustworthiness and confidence is required, considering the fact that such a revision is needed in practice by the new trajectories of the profession power-knowledge nexus in the age of the risk-knowledge society.
