Money or power? Channels of mobility in Russian society
Article Abstract:
Money, earned largely by city dwellers under 35 with high education levels, appears to be the basis of recent Russian social mobility. Members of this group generally experienced significantly lower economic and social status before reforms of the 1990s, and as their status increases they value power more than money.
