Article Abstract:
The predominance of sporting language in news coverage of cancer patients is discussed, based on a study of the English-language press. Topics include the prevalence of struggle language, sporting connotations, sporting effects, award ceremonies, the roll of honor device, alternative language, and feminist perspectives.

New directions for critical internet health studies: representing cancer experience on the web
Article Abstract:
Research shows a convergence taking place across online cancer patient web sites, emphasizing similarities between this new medium and old media such as television and newspapers rather than providing a diversity of perspectives. Implications for sociological research are also discussed.
