Viewpoint: why bother with Durkheim? Teaching sociology in the 1990s
Article Abstract:
The teaching of sociology should be broadened to include multicultural approaches and works of past authors such as Emile Durkheim, Max Weber and Karl Marx. The tendency to emphasize modern theories should not be overstressed as there is a valid basis for including a historical methodology in the curriculum. Of utmost importance to the correct teaching of the subject are feedbacks from students.
