Substance abuse treatment for people with schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
The Behavioral Treatment for Substance Abuse in Schizophrenia is discussed. The treatment is made up of four modules which are implemented in sequential order. The first is social skills and problem solving training which equips patients with social skills and the ability to resist pressures to use substances. The second is education on the reasons for and the dangers of substance use. The third module involves motivational interviewing and goal setting for reduced substance use. The last module focuses on behavioral skills training to prevent relapse.
