The African Renaissance challenge and sociology reclamations in the South
Article Abstract:
An evaluation is done on whether sociologists in the 'South' are offered any creative breathing space by either the adoption of poststructuralist and postcolonial thought or the current indigenization drive of the African Renaissance initiative in South Africa. It is argued that the African Renaissance project with all its declarative noise will remain a 'non- happening' and a gestural comedy.

Of struggles and whistles: Mamelodi's black youth culture
Article Abstract:
The African American youth culture in Mamelodi is defined from a literary perspective. The issue of HIV/AIDS is a serious threat for the parents of the African American youth of South Africa. The politics of black youth of Mamelodi is explained in the context of apartheid's legacy of inequalities among races and classes.

Article Abstract:
The study proves longevity and resilience of nationalism as a defining ideology. The articulation of nation, race and class are central to the comradeship and is being challenged by everyday reality of divergent needs in the South Africa.
