The Czech transition: politics before economics
Article Abstract:
The political transition of the Czech Republic from communism has apparently been smooth, as is shown by the results of the 1996 elections. These elections strengthened a style of political culture usually associated with western Europe. The political leadership in the Czech Republic has sought to maintain full employment as a way of making privatization more acceptable to the public. Privatizations have benefited a number of politicians who were formerly part of the Communist hierarchy. Restructuring ended around 1994, though continued restructuring could have helped avoid an economic crisis.

Beyond economistic absolutism: the postcommunist transition from a sociological perspective
Article Abstract:
Western economists studying the impact of former communist countries' transition to free market economy are slowly realizing the multifarious limitations of classical theories when applied to other cultures. People have behavioral facets beyond that of pursuing profits and asset accumulation. They have social ties such as membership in political parties. Also, classical theories do not incorporate corrupt wealth accumulation techniques such as embezzlement and theft which are prevalent in these countries.

Tradition is linked to the identity of a given community and this can be illustrated using the example of India
