The effects of different types of self-activation on social comparison orientation
Article Abstract:
The effects of different types of self-activation on the social comparison tendencies are examined. The results have concluded that the need for social comparison information is determined not only by whether self-cognitions are activated, but also by the specific valence of these activated self-cognitions.

Multiple ambiguity and an impression formation focus make inapplicable primes useful
Article Abstract:
The features of the target stimulus and the way in which these features affect the impression formation process are presented. Inapplicable priming is more likely to affect judgments of targets, which are ambiguous on multiple dimensions than of targets that are ambiguous on a single dimension.

Defensive social comparisons and the constraints of reality
Article Abstract:
An argument that defensive interpretations of social comparisons are constrained by reality, that is by perceived other-self similarity, is presented. The findings support the interpretation-comparison perspective on social comparison processes and effects.
