The emotional contradictions of identity politics: A case study of a failed human relations commission
Article Abstract:
A study was carried out regarding the birth and death of a human relations commission in California that shows the emotional stakes of social movement participation and the meaning of multiculturalism in the US during the post-civil rights era. The research indicates the extent to which resonant movement frames are necessary for movement success and how their absence can cause emotional harm to movement adherents.

High roads and low roads: Learning disabilities in California, 1976-1998
Article Abstract:
A study examines the historical relationships among privilege, race and learning disability (LD) diagnosis during 1976-1998. California revealed a historical shift in the distribution of LD diagnosis during 1976, 1986 and 1998 that conforms to the argument that students initially followed a highroad to LD but later on increasingly followed a low road to LD.
